Who We Are
Church of the Advent, an historic Episcopal parish in Williamston, North Carolina dating to 1850, is a nurturing, vibrant, and inclusive community of Christians who invite spiritual growth through liturgical worship, outreach to our community, and fellowship.
We come from many walks of life. Our age range from youngest to oldest is more than 90 years. We are a worshiping congregation who belongs to the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, The Episcopal Church in the United States, and the Worldwide Anglican Communion.

What We Believe
We believe in God the Father as Maker of heaven and earth, in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life. We believe that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments contain all things necessary for salvation. We also believe we are called to love one another as we have first been loved, and that through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, forgiveness and redemption are available to everyone.
How We Worship
We are a liturgical church, which means our Sunday worship follows patterns that are ancient, and found in our Book of Common Prayer. We pray, sing traditional hymns, listen to the Word of God found in the Holy Bible, and to sermons prepared by our clergy. We make an offering of our lives and the fruits of our labor at each service. And we celebrate the Holy Eucharist most every Sunday, when all baptized Christians are invited to come to the altar to receive Holy Communion. Some Sundays and Wednesdays we worship through the service of Morning Prayer or Evening Prayer, when a lay minister leads a service of prayers and scripture readings that is hundreds of years old.
What We Do Together
We worship, we study, we play, and we cook and eat together. We baptize, we raise up children in the Word of God, we support and comfort each other through hard times and we bury our dead in the joyful hope of Resurrection. We discern together where God is calling us as individuals and as a community, and offer what we can in ways that are manageable and sustainable. We participate in an ecumenical ministry of Blessings in a Backpack, collect items for food pantries or community children's programs, and contribute to Relay for Life. And we welcome YOU!
